The EU Empowering Consumers Directive (EmpCo) has applied across the European Union since September 27, 2026. It sets new rules for sustainability claims and labels: generic environmental claims are prohibited, and sustainability labels must be based on a certification scheme or established by public authorities. As a third-party-verified certification scheme with almost four decades of experience in credible standards and assurance, the Rainforest Alliance offers partners seals and claims they can use with confidence.
