The following tables present crops that fall within the Rainforest Alliance certification scope, along with the specific types of certifications offered for each. For a Certificate Holder that would like to certify a subproduct in the other category for a crop listed below, prior approval from Rainforest Alliance for that subproduct is required.

When and how to use this document?

A Certificate Holder can define their certification scope by selecting one or more crops from the categories listed below.

At farm level all herbs, spices and herbal tea ingredients should be certified under the UEBT/Rainforest Alliance program, but there are exceptions allowing certification under the Rainforest Alliance Certification program only:

  • Chili and Pepper (black, white and green) can be certified under Rainforest Alliance or UEBT/Rainforest Alliance.

  • If the crop is grown together with other Rainforest Alliance certified crop(s). Example: Coffee & Cardamom.

If a crop is collected from the wild, the UEBT/RA program always applies at a production level. The Certificate Holder must be certified through the UEBT/Rainforest Alliance Herbs & Spices Program. For more information contact: certification@UEBT.org.

Coffee Certificate Holders may be certified under the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard (SAS), or they may also include the Regenerative Agriculture Standard (RAS) to their certification scope.
